Premieres

The band has had a role in premiering and/or commissioning several works. Many of these have been special arrangements by band member David Henderson and conductor Ronald Holz. Several significant brass concerti have been premiered by the band, including the American premiere of Aagard-Nielsen’s Cornet Concerto (with Roger Webster at the 1998 ITG) and Burgmayer’s Concerto for Tuba (with Skip Gray at the November 2002 Concertante subscription concert). The band commissioned a special work for the 1997 Midwest Clinic concert, Richard Domek’s An Ellington Suite. Because of Ron Holz’s involvement in reviewing new music for The Brass Band Bridge (official publication of NABBA) and for NABBA’a annual Reading Band sessions, the Lexington Brass Band has been able to give American premieres of many standard works for brass band.
