Concert #1: Main Street Brass

11.02.2008

We will offer a ‘brass band primer’ that will put the spotlight on all our sections. After this program you too will be able to distinguish a British baritone from a euphonium or a tenor horn! We will perform
some tasty and spectacular music with an American ‘mainstream’ feel. Our music ranges from an exciting antiphonal Intrada by Ray Farr to Eric Ball’s technically challenging Main Street: Variations for
Brass Band. We’ll throw favorites like an excerpt from Dvorak’s New World Symphony and end with a roof-lifting version of God Bless the USA.

Concert #2: ‘Tis the Season – Old Time Yule

12.07.2008

Our annual Holiday Concert will have a decidedly ‘historical’ slant as members of Lexington’s Center for Old Music (Donna Boyd) join us to present Yuletide favorites stretching from Medieval Europe to Victorian England. Yet it won’t sound old-fashioned at all, but right up to date. This ranks as one of the most popular seasonal programs in Central Kentucky–don’t miss it!

Concert #3: March Madness Redux

02.15.2009

You requested it in your audience survey forms, and so we have brought back one of our most popular programs–a feast of marches, marches from around the world. These will range from John Philip Sousa to W.C. Handy’s St. Louis Blues March. We’ll add a few other spicy touches to help us all step out in lively fashion.

Concert #4: Flourishes and Dances

04.19.2009

The concert title captures well the celebratory nature of our season finale. We will be joined by the Lexington Chamber Chorale (Gary Anderson), who last performed with us on our highly successful 10th Anniversary program. Another title for our program could have been a classic of the band’s repertoire we are pulling out after many year, a rollicking setting of Henry VIII Pastime With Good Company, which was the title tune of our first compact disc. Join us for a blazing finish to our season!
