What better mood music than that of Glenn Miller’s big-band hits, or “Tara’s Theme” from Gone With the Wind to provide a captivating, exciting hour of romantic brass music. This should be just the ticket either after or before a Valentine’s Day dinner.

The Lexington Brass Band will feature members of the band that are band directors in the Central Kentucky area, including Tanya Bromley, past President of KMEA, Lois Wiggins, who directs the award-winning Edyth Hayes Middle School Band, Robert Bishop, director at Tates Creek High School, Nathan Miller, Lexington Salvation Army band, and Tony Wise, middle school director at Oldham County Middle School.

They and music director Ronald Holz offer exciting music like excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, John Williams’ score to Far and Away, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Woman in White, and Leroy Anderson’s American classic, “Serenata.” Our trombone section also adds a sparkling sound on “Holiday for Trombones,” a pastiche of the famous Holiday for Strings.

The concert comes to a fitting conclusion with two Glenn Miller classics: “Moonlight Serenade,” and “In the Mood.” The arrangements recapture the style, form, and verve of the original big-band charts.

The director of the Lexington Brass Band, Dr. Ronald Holz, professor of music at Asbury College, designs the band’s exciting, one-hour concerts. He is recognized as an international authority on the worldwide music and culture of brass bands in the British tradition.
