Mark Ridenour has held the position of Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1994. He is an internationally renowned orchestral and solo performer. His roots are in Central Kentucky, where he received his undergraduate music degree at Asbury College and was a member of the Lexington Philharmonic while at Asbury. He will perform several technically demanding solos with brass band accompaniment, as well as several lyrical works with organ, accompanied by Calvary Baptist Church organist Kevin Raybuck, who was a class mate of Ridenour’s at Asbury College.

The overall theme of ‘Festive” music comes through not only in the trumpet solos, but in the brass band’s contributions, including Dimitri Shostakovich’s riveting “Festive Overture” and Canadian composer Morley Calvert’s suite “The Festive Season.”

Both serious and light-hearted seasonal music will be attractive to the widest range of audience in this heralded annual concert.

The director of the Lexington Brass Band, Dr. Ronald Holz, professor of music at Asbury College, designs the band’s exciting, one-hour concerts. He is recognized as an international authority on the worldwide music and culture of brass bands in the British tradition.
